VIA Rail is getting ready to receive a brand new fleet of trains! In a few years, we will be welcoming our passengers on 32 new trains that will be operating in Quebec and Ontario. These trains, which will replace our aging fleet, will reduce our ecological footprint (thanks to some of the most energy-efficient technologies available). We are proud of this technological choice, which will be four to five times less polluting than other modes of transportation, including cars.
The arrival of this new fleet means the deployment of our new semi-intelligent trains that will be the springboard to the era of IoT, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence for VIA Rail. As a consequence, we need to add technology resources to plan and implement this modernization.
The challenges that lie ahead are:
A clear goal with developing structures
Participation in a transformation in methods and work culture
Work in inter-functional teams with tight deadlines
Harmonization of the future vision taking into account day-to-day operational realities
