Ottawa station: A milestone in accessible transportation
VIA Rail unveiled the result of significant renovations to its Ottawa station, works that have now made the station the most accessible in its network and on par with international accessibility standards.
Totalling $15 million, renovations include the installation of two elevators providing an improved universal access to all platforms, as well as the construction of a heated and tactile (for the visually impaired) boarding platform with an access ramp, at level with the train door for ease of boarding and detraining of passengers.
